20 songs to get you hyped for your Vegas trip

Introduction goes here.

“Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” – Brandon Flowers

This power ballad from the Killer’s frontman is a little more dramatic and

You are my Las Vegas” – Red Wanting Blue

This song is underheard, super catchy, and really fun to listen to.  Give this one a spin, and you’ll be humming it while booking your next trip. “‘Cause Baby, You’re my Las Vegas
The Queen of hearts and the King of all fools, Ain’t enough lights in this town to outshine me and you”

“Viva Las Vegas” – Elvis Presley

Of course no list of Vegas songs would be complete without this one.  Not an Elvis guy?  Viva Las Vegas has also been covered about a zillion times by other artists.   The punk version by Dead Kennedy’s is a good one, but it’s also been covered by ZZ Top, Vince Neil, Dread Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, and often played live by The Killers.

“Vegas” – Sara Bareilles

“40 Miles to Vegas” – Southern Culture on the Skids

Some Southern Rockabilly ideal for the building anticipation of those last few miles on a road trip to Vegas.  “40 miles to Vegas and we all started prayin!”

“Waking up in Vegas” – Katy Perry

Before she became a bubblegum pop icon, Katy Perry flirted with what sounded suspiciously a lot like rock.  “Why are these lights so bright?  Oh, did we get hitched last night, dressed up like Elvis,  Why, am I wearing your class ring?”

“Sin City” – AC/DC

Picture this opening scene.  You’ve landed at McCarren airport, you’ve gathered your bags, and you step outside ready to ride to your hotel on the strip.  Cue the opening chords of this AC/DC classic as the background song as you make it into town for that first night. “I’m gonna win!  In Sin City.”

“Luck be a Lady” – Frank Sinatra

About as much of a Vegas standard as Viva Las Vegas is.  Sinatra was one of those guys who put Vegas on the global entertainment map in the 60’s, and this song continues to play every night at the Fountains of Bellagio.

“That Was a Crazy Game of Poker” – O.A.R.

Some live versions of this genre-bending song go on longer than the World Series of Poker does.   A song you’ll be singing to yourself after a bad beat at a table full of colorful characters at 3am on Tuesday.  “That was a crazy game of poker, I lost it all, but someday I’ll be back again, And I, never to fold.”

“Vegas Lights” – Panic! At the Disco

“Casino Queen” – Wilco

Forget about the fact that this song was technically written about a riverboat casino on the Mississippi River, reframe it for Vegas, and it works perfectly.  “The room fills with smoke
and I’m already broke, and the dealer keeps on jokin’, as he takes my last token”

Visit in December and you can pretend that the lights on the strip are Christmas lights.  Or you can pretend the lights on your house in December are the lights of the strip. “The strip lights are all twinkling, there’s no room at the inn, but because ’tis the season, they’ll comp a suite for Mary at the Wynn!”
